WALTERS J (1951) The Avifauna in Garden City Plan Slotermeer (Amsterdam West) in the period October 1948 to October 1949. LIMOSA 24 (1): 12-26.

In the period from the end of October 1948 till the end of October 1949 the alterations in the area of the "Plan Tuinstad Slotermeer" (a plan for the extension of Amsterdam to the West) were enormous and their influence on the aVifauna became greater and greater. Three types of new areas are: 1. fields of moist peat, pumped-on, dark-coloured, not passable for men. 2. clayish sand, pumped on too, drying rapidly, many shells and only little vegetation. 3. inundated meadow-land. Breeding-birds in no. 1 : Sterna hirundo, Vanellus vanellus, Haematopus ostralegus, Charadrius dubius. In no. 2: Sterna hirundo, Haematopus ostralegus and Charadrius dubius. In no. 3: none. Further in the areas 1 and 3 many species in migration-time and in winter. The map on p. 20 shows the distribution of the Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus L.) on nearly 2,000 acres, based on countings II did at the end of March and the beginning of April 1949. Each K is a territory of a Lapwing-pair; 4K = 4 Lapwing-territories.
