HUIZENGA J (2010) Hybridisation of Hooded Crow Corvus cornix and Carrion Crow C. corone on Ameland in 2007 and 2009. LIMOSA 83 (3): 134-138.

On the Frisian Wadden Sea island of Ameland, a female Hooded Crow bred successfully with a male Carrion Crow in 2007 and 2009, when four and five fledglings were ringed (respectively). Mixed breeding pairs of these species have been recorded irregularly on the island since the late 1940s. Since 2000 mixed pairs have been noted annually, which shows that the occurrence of a small breeding population of mixed pairs seems to be rather stable, in contrast to the rapid decline of wintering Hooded Crows on the Dutch Wadden Sea Islands. This short note also points out the differences in plumages between hybrid Hooded x Carrion Crows and 'pure' Hooded Crows.
